How Does The Garage Gate Control Board Work?

During operation, the garage door control circuit board receives signals and commands from control devices such as remote controls and smart devices, interprets the corresponding wireless protocols, and simultaneously receives continuous pulses from sensors indicating the gate’s status (open or closed). The control board responds to these signals to control the opening and closing of the gate.

During this process, the photoelectric sensor monitors the sensor’s status by emitting pulses. If the infrared beam is blocked by a person or object, the circuit board stops operating, and the door’s movement halts immediately as a safety measure. At the same time, the onboard microcontroller detects changes in the motor’s current, captures this information within 50 ms, and issues a command to reverse the door’s direction.

What Design Considerations Are Required For A Garage Door Circuit Board?

High-Tg Substrate Material

Since garage doors are structures exposed to the outdoor environment, you should select materials with a high Tg (>170°C) to withstand seasonal temperature fluctuations and prevent circuit board warping or component failure.

Additionally, applying a conformal coating can further enhance the circuit board’s moisture resistance and corrosion resistance, effectively preventing issues such as short circuits.

Standardized Terminal Layout and Heavy-Duty Terminal Protection

Through its automated production lines, CONSONS offers standard terminal layouts or exact 1:1 replicas of original designs, ensuring that the circuit boards can seamlessly replace those from brands such as LiftMaster, DoorKing, and FAAC.

Additionally, for heavy-duty terminals, we provide specialized terminal isolation components suitable for 12/24V accessory power supplies, photoelectric sensors, and other components.

Heat Dissipation Structure

CONSONS equips the relays and MOSFETs on its gate control PCBs with aluminum heat sinks and surge protection zones, which ensure the PCB operates stably even under extreme temperature fluctuations.

Optional LED Display

Your garage door circuit board should also include an LED display interface or status indicator lights. This allows maintenance personnel to quickly identify the location of a fault in the event of a malfunction, thereby reducing the after-sales cost for you.

Certifications For Gate Control Boards

UL 325

This is a mandatory requirement for gate control boards in the North American market, stipulating that your board must include a photoelectric sensor interface and an adaptive obstruction reversal function.

FCC Part 15 / RED Certification

These standards address RF compliance requirements in North America and Europe, ensuring that signals emitted by your board do not interfere with other devices. CONSONS has designed EMI/EMC anti-interference to achieve this goal for you.

CE & RoHS

This standard addresses the safety and environmental sustainability of gate control board production, requiring lead-free manufacturing. CONSONS operates lead-free production lines to ensure your control boards meet safety requirements.

Key Factors in Selecting Industrial-Grade Gate Control Boards

Power Supply and Motor Compatibility

First, you need to determine the board’s power supply method such as solar power or mains power, and whether a backup battery is required.

Standard gate control PCBs can be equipped with DC (12/24V) or AC (115/230V) motors. Before replacing or repairing your gate control system, you must first confirm the type of motor in use.

Physical Interfaces

When selecting a replacement door control PCB, you should also pay attention to the specifications and locations of the various physical interfaces. Therefore, you can ensure that the finished PCB manufactured by CONSONS is directly compatible with your existing system, or precisely matches original boards from manufacturers such as LiftMaster, DoorKing, and Viking.

Wireless Protocols

Wireless protocols are another key consideration. Common types of door control PCBs include fixed-code, rolling-code, and learning-code systems.

  • Fixed Code

The control board uses soldered chips and DIP switches to transmit a fixed code signal. This option is a relatively economical choice for older garage doors.

  • Learning Code

It works by learning and storing a unique transmitter ID. This enables quick configuration of the access control system with the transmitter.

Rolling Code

  • Rolling Code

Each time the remote control is pressed, the encryption algorithm inside both the remote and the control board automatically jumps to a new, unique code according to a specific rule.

It reduces the risk of signals being intercepted or cloned. It is ideal for modern residential communities and commercial property systems.

What Protections Are Needed For Garage Door Circuit Boards?

CONSONS offers protections including surge protection, overload protection, short-circuit protection, and infrared anti-pinch protection, among others.

Overload Protection

When the current exceeds the rated value, the access control system’s motor will automatically shut off to prevent burnout.

Surge Protection

Since the door control system is connected to the outside world, it is highly susceptible to lightning strikes or induced surges during thunderstorms, especially in industrial parks. Therefore, you need to select surge protection for the circuit board to mitigate damage and impact caused by lightning strikes and to protect sensitive components such as microprocessors.

Short-Circuit Protection

The PCB incorporates a self-resetting fuse. If an abnormal surge in current is detected for a short period, the fuse will automatically blow and will only reset once the fault has been resolved. This eliminates the hassle of replacement for your customers, making this feature particularly popular.

Infrared Anti-Pinch Protection

CONSONS provides an interface on the PCB for connecting an infrared sensor. If a person or object is detected obstructing the door during the closing process, the garage door will automatically stop closing to ensure safety. This is a necessary feature to help your product comply with UL 325 regulations.

Control Principles Of Garage Door Circuit Boards

Wireless Remote Control

CONSONS garage door control circuit boards can operate on the mainstream 315/433 MHz signal bands and support signal transmission over distances of 30–50 meters.

Button Control

The garage door circuit board also requires the installation of button components controlled by a low-voltage circuit.

Wireless Wi-Fi Control

CONSONS can also install a Wi-Fi module on your garage door circuit board, allowing it to connect to the internet for residential or commercial use and enabling remote control via a mobile app.

Do You Support Custom Garage Door Control Circuit Boards For Specific Frequencies?

Yes, CONSONS supports customization for specific frequencies (such as 433.92 MHz, 315 MHz, and 868 MHz) or other frequency bands you specify.

What Safety Devices Do Your Garage Door Circuit Boards Support?

Monitoring infrared photoelectric sensors, ground-mounted loops, safety edges, anti-collision strips, warning lights, and more. If any of these devices are triggered, the CONSONS door control PCB will immediately cut off power and stop the door from operating.

How Do You Ensure That The Circuit Boards Comply With UL 325 Safety Standards?

From the perspective of the hardware, CONSONS equips the gate control board with photoelectric sensor interfaces and infrared sensors.

And as for the software, the circuit board is programmed to perform resistance detection; if the resistance encountered during garage door operation exceeds the threshold, the door will reverse direction and open.

Does Your Solar-Powered Garage Door Control Circuit Board Require An Additional Solar Controller?

No, we have a built-in solar management circuit that can be directly connected to the circuit board’s 12/24V DC power supply. This saves you the cost of purchasing an external controller.

How Do You Guarantee The Service Life Of Gate Control Boards?

The short service life of gate-controlled PCBs is primarily caused by issues such as board deformation due to high temperatures, corrosion from moisture, and short circuits caused by dust accumulation.

To address these issues, CONSONS primarily employs the following measures:

High-Tg PCB substrate materials to withstand thermal stress and prevent board warping and delamination;

Industrial-grade surge protection to prevent burnout;

Conformal coating to prevent corrosion;

Strict quality and performance testing prior to shipment, including 100% AOI optical inspection, flying probe testing, and power-on aging tests.
